Performs anisotropic diffusian on an image. The function applies Perona-Malik anisotropic diffusion to an image. This is the solution to the partial differential equation. Usually, anisotropic diffusion is expressed in a variational framework, where some image functional is minimized. These functionals usually include a term that depends on the gradient of the image to be denoised, because this term allows to trigger the anisotropy property. 1. Overview In this project we explore the process of anisotropic diffusion through the work of Perona & Malik. This work introduces a slight modification to the conventional diffusion process by modeling the flux as a function of edge-strength in the image, thereby giving us "anisotropy".
